Caldwell County Right to Life is preparing to host its major annual event, the Mother’s Walk for Life, on May 15, 2010. The purpose of this event is to celebrate the value and potential of every human life. Please join us as we pay tribute to mothers who choose life! We are pleased to have Fran Propst, director of the Caldwell Pregnancy Care Center, scheduled as our featured speaker.

Walk participants will assemble at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of College Avenue Baptist Church located at 1201 College Ave. SW in downtown Lenoir. The Walk will proceed to the Square where the rally, which includes both speaking and special music, will take place.

Please join us at this event as we celebrate the wonderful gift of choosing life and seek to promote a culture of life in our community. All pro-life individuals, churches, public officials, and community groups are welcome!

As Caldwell County Right to Life prepares to take part in the national March for Life in Washington, D.C., we applaud the courage of pro-life leaders who are also willing to take a public stand in defense of the unborn.

On January 22, 2010, the annual March for Life will be held in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the 50 million unborn lives lost through legalized abortion since 1973. The event will take place on the 37th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade. Caldwell County Right to Life plans to take part in this important event.

We will be sponsoring a bus trip to Washington, D.C., to ensure that the citizens of Caldwell County are represented at the 2010 March. Participants will meet at 6:00 am at the Rock Chapel Church of God  in Granite Falls, NC, on Thursday, January 21. We will travel to D.C., participate in the March for Life on Friday, and then depart for North Carolina at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23. There is no charge for transportation. Participants will be responsible to pay for their meals and 2 nights at the hotel. We will provide further information regarding hotel costs in the near future.

2009 was a very important year for the pro-life cause, and Caldwell County Right to Life stayed busy with its efforts to educate the public regarding the sanctity and dignity of every human life. In addition to holding monthly meetings, CCRtL also participated in the following activities during 2009:

Pro-life senators Ben Nelson (D-Ne.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) will file (or perhaps already will have filed by the time you read this) an amendment to Majority Leader Harry Reid’s “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.” NRLC strongly opposes Reid’s bill (H.R. 3590) and strongly supports the Nelson-Hatch Amendment.

…the effect of the Nelson-Hatch Amendment would (1) prevent the proposed new government health insurance program — the “public option” — from paying for abortions, and (2) also prevent federal funds from being used to subsidize the purchase of private health plans that pay for elective abortion.

The Senate will likely vote on this important pro-life amendment today. Please call your senators immediately to ask them to support the Nelson-Hatch Amendment to the health care bill (H.R. 3950). Find more information here.

A new CNN poll finds 61 percent [of Americans] oppose the government funding abortions with public dollars.

The poll found six in ten Americans favor a ban on using federal funds for abortions, such as the Stupak amendment recently added to the health care bill in the House.

The new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released today shows 61 percent oppose taxpayer funding of abortions while just 37 percent are supportive.

The CNN poll goes further and finds that a majority of Americans, by a 51 to 45 percent margin, believe women should be required to use their own money to pay for abortions even if they have private health insurance and no government money is involved. They did not think health insurance should pay for abortions.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nv.) has rejected the bipartisan Stupak-Pitts Amendment and has substituted completely unacceptable language that would result in coverage of abortion on demand in two big new federal government programs.

Reid seeks to cover elective abortions in two big new federal health programs, but tries to conceal that unpopular reality with layers of contrived definitions and hollow bookkeeping requirements…

…Regrettably but predictably, Reid rejected the bipartisan Stupak-Pitts language. Instead, Reid has sought to please the militant minority that demands funding of abortion through federal programs, even though substantial majorities of Americans believe that abortion should be excluded from government-funded and government-sponsored health programs.

The Reid bill establishes a big new federal health insurance program, the public option (although now referred to in Reid’s bill as the “community health insurance option”). The bill authorizes (on page 118) the federal Secretary of Health and Human Services to require coverage of any and all abortions throughout the public option program. This would be federal government funding of abortion, no matter how hard they try to disguise it.

In addition, the bill creates new tax-supported subsidies to purchase private health plans that will cover abortion on demand.

National Right to Life will continue to fight for the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, and to oppose the stubborn attempts of congressional Democratic leaders to establish new federal government programs that will fund coverage of elective abortions.
